Planetary Bodies

Our Solar System

In our solar system there are many planetary bodies. The main planetary bodies that we know of are the 8 planets. These planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. These 8 planets are usually split into 3 categories. The first 4 planets are terrestrial planets because they are mainly made of metals and rocky material. The next two planets, Jupiter and Saturn, are considered gas giants because they are mainly made of gas. The final two planets, Uranus and Neptune, are ice giants because they contain elements heavier than the gasses in the gas giants, and they are very cold and have water. Other than these main planets there are also other objects that make up our solar system. The four Galilean moons are the largest moons of Jupiter. There are also other areas in our solar system that contain many different objects. These areas are often called the asteroid belt, the Kuiper Belt, the Oort Cloud.
